If you've visited South Africa and experienced the wonders of the winelands, then you would have marvelled in the architectural gems that engulfed you.
The distinct look and feel of the Cape Dutch styled homes are mostly found in the region of the Western Cape, and were prominent in the 17th century. The name derived from the Dutch inhabitants who settled in the Cape at the time.
Today, Cape Dutch homes are one of the most distinguished features of the Western Cape winelands, particularly in and around Stellenbosch. Their elaborate gables and high roofs were adapted to suit the warm climate that can be experienced in South Africa.
Vineyards to visit to encounter these majestic architectural gems and understand their rich history connected to their homes, are Vergelegen and Boschendal Wine Estates. Their wines are absolutely gorgeous too.
