What Makes South Africa Truly Unique?

I was asking Genevieve this question the other day. What makes South Africa truly unique? Is it your Ouma's (grandmother's) homemade Melktert (a milk based tart), or the rusks you dip in your Rooibos tea? Is it the way that we manage to all understand one another even when we have 11 official languages or is it when our rugby team is in the World Cup final and we all proudly sing our Anthem with FIVE languages all bundled into one?

This is how Genevieve and I grew up. In high school, we learned Xhosa, an African language, spoken in the Eastern Cape - the region that we were born in. With different tribes in South Africa, comes different languages and traditions. Xhosa has three clicks in the language. "x", "c" and "q". Don't worry, we'll do a video on it so you can learn too! We have the privilege to visit some of the world's most beautiful places like Cape Town, the Stellenbosch winelands, the Kruger National Park and God's Window to name a few. We've been offroad 4x4'ing, we've been up a cable car, we've had a good laugh when a taxi (a mini bus public transport van) cuts you off in the traffic. And nothing quite tells you you're home like a braai (a wood or coal fired barbeque). We even celebrate National Braai Day (aka Heritage Day) in September and everyone braai's on that day! And we won't get started on Biltong (a cured meat).

For Genevieve and I, this is Africa. This is home.
